You Are Not Helpless

I feel the tug of Learned Helplessness threatening to drag me down every time I read stories about the latest gun violence in our country and the endless streams of outrage and disappointment that we haven’t been able to do better than this.

Oh Hey! I'm Back, with News!

Hello from beautiful Carmel, California! I’m away this week but couldn’t wait to share with you a bundle of recent developments. I’ve been on a short hiatus from blogging to re-examine my priorities and mission, and decide which areas I need to dedicate my energy to most fervently in the coming months. The Barre & Soul community is rockin’, and we’re growing like crazy. So here goes!

Follow-Up to My xoJane Article: Why Calling People Toxic is Complete B.S.

This week I had the honor of being published on xoJane.com, an online women's magazine run by former Sassy and Jane magazine goddess, Jane Pratt. The eyeliner struggle is real. Who's been there? Seriously though, I recently discovered THE SECRET to amazing eyeliner! I've started using the pot of gel liner and little angled brush and it works AWESOME.

Counting What Matters (Hint: It's not the pounds.) An experiment to mute out the word "diet" proves to be pretty interesting but not too surprising.

Here's what made Vice President Joe Biden's Oscar speech so powerful. Did you catch it?

L.A. for the Solo Lady Traveler

I have a confession to make. I know I may seem really independent and fearless, but truthfully, I can be a total chicken sometimes. I try to hide it by avoiding situations that make me feel uncomfortable, but last month I decided to get out of my comfort zone and confront one major fear...

Lose those last five pounds! (Or the first five!) Back by Super Popular Demand, our Nutrition Jumpstart has another session starting next week. If you need a push to eat better so you can have more energy and feel great, this program is definitely one to check out - it worked for me!

Netflix is about to expand the #girlboss empire. Future binge-watching material.

A diet and exercise experiment to lose fat and gain muscle - Hmmm.  I definitely agree with the protein part. So they didn't experiment with less weight training yet, it sounds like. Seems obvious that 6 days of full body weight training would not provide adequate recovery time! Those dudes must have been so hangry and depleted!

Ice Castles! So cool.

My current status: snowed in and kinda liking it. Enjoy your weekend!

Happy New Year! As always, I've hoarded all of the links to share with you! Hope this provides some food for thought, inspiration and laughs to share with your friends.

Enjoy, and feel free to share links you're loving lately in the comments.

First of all, DAMN. This is some powerful stuff from Kelly Diels on what she's calling the Female Lifestyle Empowerment Brand. Kelly takes on the current state of DIY marketing geared toward women by internet entrepreneurs, This passage was powerful: "They do it in the guise of building a relationship with you but what they’re doing is dramatizing the gap between your ordinary apartment and their New York loft, their frequent and fabulous holidays and your staycations, their flat abs and your squishy stomach, their nearly-naked yoga and your see-through yoga pants (the ones that their inventor never intended for your kind of ass, after all), their famous besties and your toxic friends, their bottomless bank accounts and your overdraft." ... I SO don't want to be that kind of blogger or professional!

Women's Healthsays goodbye to the bikini body. . . Hello 2016.

Know your worth and stop being such a pushover. . .this new email plug-in can help.

The books that haven't been written. . . can you even imagine?

I'm A Fitness Professional, But I Was So Photoshopped That I Didn't Recognize Myself . . . It's safe to assume that any image you see out there is photo-shopped and filtered these days!

If you're inclined to set new goals this year, this post is PACKED with meaningful ideas. These are my kind of aspirations! And while you're dreaming and scheming, sign up for one of my upcoming Dreamers Summits!

P.S. Barre & Soul's January Nutrition Jumpstart is currently full, but you can still get on the waitlist or sign up for the next round! Find out more about it and learn how I lost my "Last 5 Lbs." here.

How I Lost my “Last 5 Pounds” and How it Did (and Didn’t) Change my Life

You know what? There are no invisible contracts between your body and anyone else. You don’t owe it to the world to be a particular weight or a particular shape. Besides that, there is no weight or shape that will turn you into a new person or guarantee you a princess-perfect life.
